Sarah Josepha Buel Hale Named to the NH Women’s Heritage Trail

The New Hampshire Women’s Heritage Trail and the New Hampshire Women’s Foundation celebrated Women’s History Month by announcing the first twenty-seven inductees to the New Hampshire Women’s Heritage Trail. In 2008 the NH Commission on the Status of Women created the Women’s Heritage Trail with the mission to “give visible recognition to the historic women of New Hampshire and celebrate their significant contributions to the life and culture of the state since its founding.”A call for nominations was sent throughout the state, and for the past seven years considerable research was conducted into the lives of those recommended for this honor. Newport’s Sarah J. Hale was nominated by the Richards Free Library, and selected for her literary work, editorship of Godey’s Lady’s Book, and her fight for higher education, better medical care and higher wages for women. A list of all women on the Heritage Trail can be found at http://nhwomensheritagetrail.org/.
